We offer you a broad spectrum of effective systems for drying mineral raw materials via direct or indirect processes. In direct processing the gas is mixed with the material to be processed in order to obtain the desired drying material.

Rotary dryer

Rotary dryers are used in the minerals industry for drying wet materials. The rotary dryer comes in two different models: a standard and a customized one.

Both have a huge number of innovative process-related and construction details which make the dryer mechanically and technically a future-proof solution. Other key features include a controlled drying process with low fuel consumption, a robust design with high availability, and low maintenance costs.

Reliable drying solution

Our rotary dryers are reliable, low-maintenance machines for high throughputs and treating materials with different properties – even difficult materials. Each rotary dryer consists of an inclined rotating cylinder with internal lifter or blades where the process material is dried through direct contact with the hot gases.

Operational benefits

Whether as an individual system or in combination with other units, these rotary dryers are ideal for drying and preheating fine-grained and lumpy materials. They can be used for product-specific processing by switching between a counterflow through varying the temperature of the supplied hot gas.

This energy-efficient and cost-effective operation is achieved by utilising hot offgas, e.g. from a downstream kiln process. If required, the rotary dryer can be combined with a screen in the discharge device in order to split the product into different particle size fractions.

Shaft Dryer

Proven design – top heat efficiency – low maintenance

The Shaft Dryer developed in close cooperation between thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions and the refractory industry enables gentle drying of pellets and briquettes.

The Shaft Dryer operating by the counter-flow principle was specially developed by thyssenkrupp to reduce the moisture content of pellets or briquettes to a level (<0.5%) acceptable for furnace charging. Its unique design allows efficient heat exchange and generates only a small amount of fine dust, which improves the overall efficiency of the plant.

Thanks to the controlled combustion chamber furnace the hot gas generated allows the plant to operate very quietly, even when process exhaust gases are used. The application possibilities lie in the drying of material pellets such as aluminum oxide or spinel.

Preheated air (<300°C) reaches the upper and lower sections by means of a drying air fan. In the upper section the hot gas enters the chamber and flows through a bundle of pipes from top to bottom. In the lower section a cross construction and specific arrangement of gas entry and exit cones ensure distribution of the hot gas, which passes through the material in counter-flow. The drying air is heated to the required constant and controlled drying temperature by means of a hot gas generator. The dried material is then discharged through a cone into a tube, which empties into a vibrating feeder.

 Shaft-type flash dryer

The flash dryer: Proven design. High flexibility. Low maintenance.

The flash dryer offers an efficient method for removing surface moisture from the product to be processed. Designed for rapid and gentle drying of fine-grained materials, its possible applications include phosphate, lime, clay, ores, fly ash, slag, and other fine-grained materials.

How you benefit

Excellent mixing of the material and good flow conditions ensure very high drying speeds so that even extremely moist materials can often be dried in just a few seconds. This is very important, for example, in the case of temperature-sensitive materials. The short material retention time makes the system very flexible because it can be adapted quickly and easily to variations in the properties of the material, e.g. feed moisture content. The dryer can be combined with a hammer mill and a separator to achieve the desired product grain size range. Additional advantages are its low energy and space requirements, versatile application possibilities, and low maintenance and repair needs. What’s more, it is easy to operate by site personnel.

How it works

The material is fed into the riser duct of the dryer, through which hot drying gases from a combustion chamber or exhaust gases from other thermal processes flow from the bottom to the top. The special design ensures that gas and material are intensively mixed. The dried product is typically captured and discharged from the drying process by a high-efficiency cyclone.
